About
Dr. Ganesh Natarajan is Chairman and Co-Founder of 5F World, GTT Data Solutions Ltd. and Lighthouse Communities Foundation. He is also Chairman of Honeywell Automation India and EPPS and an independent Board member of Hinduja Global Solutions, Cyient DLM Ltd, Tablespace Pvt Ltd, SBI Payments, SBI DFHI, 1Crowd and Educate Girls. He is also a GP/ Global Partner in Cornerstone Ventures and Arise Ventures and an active investor and start-up enabler through 5F World and the Indian Angel Network.
Ganesh has a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering from BIT Mesra, Ranchi, a Masters’ in Industrial Engineering from IIM Mumbai, PhD from IIT Bombay and Advanced Management from Harvard Business School. He has received the Distinguished Alumnus Award of BIT Mesra, IIT Bombay and IIM Mumbai. Harvard Business School has written and teaches two case studies on Dr. Ganesh Natarajan and his success through Vision Communities and Innovation.
Ganesh has a track record of success in intrapreneurship / entrepreneurship, scaling APTECH from 4 to 400 crores, Zensar from 300 to 3000 crores and GTT from start-up to two rounds of funding to private equity to a listing on the BSE main bourse in eleven years. EY recognised Ganesh for exceptional entrepreneurship in 2004.
Ganesh has been Chairman of Industry association NASSCOM and NASSCOM Foundation and National Council member and IT Committee Chair of the Confederation of Indian Industry. He has also been President of the HBS Club of India and a Charter member of The Indus Entrepreneurs (TiE).
Ganesh Natarajan is the author of sixteen books and a regular writer and speaker at national and international forums. His primary interests are in Digital Success, Dual Intelligence of Humans & AI and Leadership in the corporate and social sector.
We are in interesting times – for India and the world. The whole world is catching a fever with the cold stand-off in the Middle East war, and the sweep of AI is causing tremors for corporates and countries. But before everybody becomes overly pessimistic, let us do a reality check!
I believe that all of us would do well to embrace the “AI in everything” rather than the “AI is everything” narrative. AI in everything is not a magic wand that will suddenly make the baggage accumulated by large organisations over the years disappear. Building and deploying AI agents will be integral to the redesign of processes and systems, not a sprinkling of magic dust on a clunky existing piece of software. Sources have estimated the size of this opportunity to be nearly four hundred billion dollars for the Services industry.
The capability to do this is not rocket science, but it will also not happen overnight. Let us use a Charles Handy forecast of industries growing in a series of sigmoid curves, with each sigmoid having a slow start, then rapid acceleration, and finally a slow decline. The new sigmoid of growth for all industries will need better education in colleges and better training before and during employment to help the eager youth of India become adept at new solutions, rather than relying on the career dreams of a previous era.
So why is there an unnecessary feeling of gloom and doom that causes panic market selling of stocks every week, not just in Indian stocks but also in global majors? It will just need a positive point of view and CEOs who are truly Clairvoyant Evangelical Orators to lead their organisations to a new and better future. And positive people and leaders to take communities and countries forward!
